Medicine Cabinet

While here at BWH, I have been constantly inspired by the breathtaking view from my room.  The labyrinthian array of interconnected ducts, pipes and walkways is a constant source of wonder.  It makes me think of the mining complex on Mars in the movie, "Total Recall".  If one looks closely to the left of the giant chimney, one can espy a small patch of greenery in the distance, proof that I am in fact still on the  planet earth.

In my idle moments, I have time to reflect on all the medications I am taking here.  I'm sure this would be a fascinating topic for you, so let me enlighten you.

My morning starts off with a panoply of pills.  These include:
  • lisinopril - blood pressure
  • amlodipine - blood pressure
  • simvastatin - cholesterol
  • omeprazole - reflux
  • actigall - liver
  • folic acid - anemia
  • levaquin - antibiotic
  • acyclovir - antiviral
  • vitamin B12
  • vitamin D
  • vitamin E
  • multivitamins
  • calcium
Depending on how I feel, I may take either compazine or Ativan to prevent nausea, Imodium for diarrhea, or potassium if my count is low. A few of these pills I also take in the afternoon and evening.  I also take a couple of mouthwashes, as well as powdered glutamine that I mix with water or juice, all of which are to promote mouth health and prevent mouth sores from the melphalan.  So far, I haven't gotten any mouth sores, so I have my fingers crossed that I will escape the worst of that.

  1. Good luck with the mouth sores. Shelby got them so bad that they went all the way down her esophagus. She could not swallow, so she had to take her nutrition and water intravenously.

  2. I was waiting on today's numbers...and like I said the other day "I'm not talking megabucks."
    How are them WBC's doing?

  3. Dear OCRM, too bad Shelby had to suffer so much with the mouth sores. I have been amply warned, so I chewed on ice chips all through the chemo process, and I have been religiously following the mouth care regimen since. So far, no mouth sores, but as my WBC really drops, that's the worst time. I've got my fingers crossed.

  4. Lynn, them WBCs are fast disappearing. They're down to 0.37 as of this morning. They have been dropping like rock. I'm still feeling good though. Thanks for asking.
